If so, then you might like to try the ancient method of Reiki healing. ![]() What is Reiki? Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is an ancient form of healing originating from Japan, although Reiki as we know it was founded in the 1800’s by Dr Mikao Usui. ‘Rei’ means ‘Universal wisdom’ and ‘Ki’ means Life energy’. Reiki therefore can be translated as ‘vital life energy guided by universal wisdom’. How does Reiki work? In the same way that we all have blood flowing through our body, we also have energy flowing throughout it too – one main difference being that most people cannot see this energy. ‘Ki’ is the name for this unlimited energy which flows through all forms of life. Reiki is a method of channelling this energy. Our energy pathways can become easily blocked as they are receptive to our thoughts and feelings. Therefore, Reiki works by unblocking the pathways so that the energy can flow easily around the body once more. It is completely natural, safe, holistic and extremely relaxing. It is worth mentioning that you do not have to believe in Reiki for it to work, you just have to have the desire to receive it and you will! What happens during a treatment? A full Reiki treatment lasts approximately an hour. The recipient lies down, fully clothed. The practitioner then channels the Reiki energy through to the recipient’s body by placing her hands in different positions on or just above the body. You might feel heat where the practitioner places her hands. This is a sign that there is an energy blockage in that part of the body, and so the practitioner's hands would remain there until the heat dissipates. Reiki is so very relaxing that it is not uncommon for people to drift off during a treatment. I tell my clients that this hour is their time. Therefore it is up to them whether they want to drift off with the relaxing music playing, or likewise if they want to talk to me during the treatment then this is fine too. What conditions can Reiki help with? Reiki activates the body’s own self-healing mechanisms and helps rebalance and detoxify the body. It is very effective for both physical conditions and mental and emotional issues. It works on a causative level, rather than just addressing the symptoms alone. It is particularly suitable for conditions requiring a gentle approach. Some conditions Reiki can help with include:
…the healing potential with Reiki is limitless! However, you do not have to be ill to benefit from Reiki, as it is an excellent way to maintain good health and reduce stress.
